Hot Stones Massage Therapy
A Hot Stone Massage Therapy is a massage combined with the use of smooth, heated stones. The warmth of the stones seeps deep into the body, relaxing tense muscles and easing tension. Hot stone massage is extremely relaxing and soothing.
Before you arrive, the practitioner santitizes the stones and heats them in a bath of water. You ususally start face down, with the practitioner working on your back. First, the therapist warms up the bdy with relaxtion massage then massages you while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. Many stones of various shapes and sizes may be used- larger stones on the bigger muscles, smaller ones on smaller muscles. A full-body massage is completed with the stones, including the arms, legs, shoulders, feet, neck, and face.
Be sure to speak up if the stones are too warm or the pressure is too intense. The benefits of hot stone is a more gentle form of massage and can be tolerated more easily by those who are more sensitive or havechronic conditions, such as fibromyalgia.
*If you're interested in having aromatherapy oils added to hot stone massage, please let Sonya know prior to booking a session.
When Not To get Heated Stone Massage:
Hot Stone massage is not appropriate if you have diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease that is not under control. If you have edema or uncontrolled swelling, if you overheat easily and do not like hot humid weather, heated stonemassage may not be for you. This therapy is not appropriate for pregnant women or those who have sunburn or have recently been very overheated. If you are menopausal, heated stones may trigger hot flashes. If the outside weather is hotter than 28 degrees Celcius, and you are not able to be in an air-conditioned place, it is not a good idea to have a hot stone massage.
Note: These treatments are not intended to replace medical or psychological care, but they are excellent complementary therapies. If you have a serious medical or psychological issue, please seek care from a medical doctor or the appropriate psychological therapist. Sonya is happy to work in co-operation with other treatment methods you may be using.

Cupping Massage Therapy
Cupping may be used on its own or combined with Reiki healing. Cupping Therapy, commonly known as Chinese Cupping, is a wonderful relaxing method of stimulating and stretching out muscle tissues, releasing fascia, and strengthening and toning soft tissues.
Cupping is also very beneficial for:
- Sore muscles and injuries, (including sports injuries and repetitive strain injuries)
- TMJ
- Arthritis
- Edema
- All digestive issues
- Colds and flus
- Lymphatic drainage
- Detoxifiying the body
Cupping is most often done on the clients' back, but it can be done on almost any body part.
Here is a description of the process:
1. The practitioner rubs light coat of massage oil over the area to be worked on
2. The cups are suctioned onto the clients' body at various points chosen according to the symptoms the person is having. This is not painful and is quite a pleasureable experience.
3. The cups may be left in place or slowly dragged around on the area in a massage like motion. This is very helpful to ease stiff, sore muscles and to draw toxins out through the skin.
4. The cups are removed and sanitized and the client feels great!
Note: Even though cupping is painless, there may be discolorations left on the body after the session. This is a result of stagnant blood cells and toxins being pulled up to the surface of the skin by the suction cups. The marks usually go away in couple of days.
Interestingly, the more toxins you have, the more marks you usually get from the cups. For examples, if you have a cold, flu or other illness you are more likely to have marks on your skin. As your health improves, the marks will be lighter and lighter with each subsequenct treatment. The theory is that darker marks appear because you have toxins in your body, and as the toxins are pulled out over time, your skin will not mark as much with cupping.
Please let Sonya know if you like to include Reiki into the combination.

Sports Massage Therapy
Why Is Therapeutic Sports Massage So Important To Us?
Therapeutic sports massage gives athletes the opportunity to reach their full potential by reducing the risk of musculoskeltal injuries. The massage is more of a treatment than a relaxation massage:
- Collaboration between the therapist and the athlete throughout the treatment.
- Advice on exercised for muscular flexibility and strengthening.
- Can be done prior, during physical activity or in a recovery phase, following a sporting event such as half marathon or a full marathon to name a few.
All of these elements have a real impact on the maximum potential of the athlete, especially after a sporting event because it increases:
- Healing and recovery between efforts
- Joint mobility, flexibility and biomechanics
- Body perception and mental focus
- Motivation and self-confidence
By identifying areas of tension, the massage also allows to reduce: muscle cramps and spasms as well as stress and anxiety (pre- and post-event).
Massage can bring about physical, mental, and emotional changes. The benefits can vary from individual to individual.
